Pitt down
Pitt is no longer unbeaten. I had a feeling they were going to lose. Tennessee always comes out hard every game and with the thought of beating a top five team. Everything that could have gone right went right for them. This wont affect Pitt at all they will come back stronger and still be a force.

Beantown Number 1 Again?
Recently the Boston Red Sox picked up free agent Carl Crawford recently from the Tampa Bay Rays. This is a huge pick up considering they just traded for Adrian Gonzalez. They now have two huge power hitters and with the health of Youkilis and Pedroia, the BoSox are shaping up to be a force in the AL East with the Bronx Bombers. This deal with Crawford is a 7 year 142 million dollar deal. Im looking forward to this season however, the pitching needs to step it up as well as the bullpen.

Werth the Money?
Recently Jayson Werth of the Phillies signed a seven year 126 million dollar deal with the Washington Nationals. This is really going to help the Nats on offense and start producing a good team. Werth is a strong offensive and defensive player and I think he will fit good with them.

Looks Like He'll Be Back
Derek Jeter and the Yankees are close a a 3 year deal with option in 2014. I really wish he would have left the team but looks like he never will. Face it Jeter is not that good hes old and washed up and apparently the deal is suppose to be between 15-17 million. He recently just won a Gold Glove which I don't think he deserves at all.

Hefty Fine
The Denver Broncos and Josh McDaniel's were each fine $50000 for violating league policy regarding video filming. Apparently one of the teams video techs filmed a San Fransisco 49ers practice in London last month. Rules are rules so I understand this but I just don't understand why this is happening I mean didn't you see what happened with the Pats a few seasons ago? Comment please.

The Last Time?
Today's matchup of the Vikings and Packers could be the last time Farve faces his old team. It is likely that he will retire after this season but you never know with him. I hope Farve is done even though it is fun to watch him face his old team but I think this is it.

Finally
The Pirates are finally going to name a new head coach. The winning coach is Clint Hurdle hitting coach of the Texas Rangers and former manager of the Colorado Rockies. This should be a good fit because Hurdle is very good with young players which is what the Pirates have a lot of. Once he was fired by the Rockies he became the Rangers hitting coach leading them to number one in hitting for the MLB and fifth in runs scored. Maybe he can bring that offensive coaching to the Bucs. What do you think about the new coach?

Can He Do It?
Ichiro has won his 10 consecutive Gold Glove award. This is an amazing feat considering he is only the fifth outfield to ever win 10 consecutively. He is currently tied with Ken Griffey Jr. and Andruw Jones with 10 and the only two in front of him are Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente. I think Ichiro has a great shot at getting 13 but I really hope he doesn't. I love Clemente and Mays and it is just nice to see those names at the top but if he does it, I will applaud him. Records are meant to be broken. Do you think he will get three more Gold Gloves?

Rare Indeed
Recently a rare Honus Wagner baseball card was sold for $262,000. There are only 60 of them known to exist. The funny thing is the card was sold by The School Sisters of Notre Dame after one of the deceased nuns brother gave them the card. The nuns will receive $220,000 for the card. Sister Virginia Muller said "the proceeds will go to the order's ministries in more than 30 countries around the world." What are your thoughts and reaction from this story?

Meeting Adjourned
James Harrison recently met with Roger Goodell the other day about the rules on illegal hits in the NFL. Harrison said the meeting was "semi-productive". Harrison spoke his mind about the illegal hits and thought he gave Goodell and the NFL a better understanding of where he was coming from and he received somewhat a better understanding of what Goodell was informing. Troy Polamalu said Goodell has created a sense of paranoia around the league and he and many others do not like it. By the way, Harrison was fined again for his late hit on Brees Sunday night costing him 20K. What are your thoughts on Goodell? Do you think he has too much power? I think he does. Sad Day at South Bend
Recently a college student at Notre Dame died in a freak accident. The student was filming the football practice when the scissor lift fell over. He later died at the hospital. This is very sad because he was just doing his job and its terrible that this is how he passed. Yesterday was a very bad day weather wise and it was said to believe the winds were gusting over 51 mph at South Bend. What are your reactions to this story?

Dixon to the Rescue!
Saturday night on Interstate 279 North, a car swerved and hit the concrete barrier in the middle of the interstate. It was a very horrific crash and the first person on scene to lend a hand was can you believe it, Jamie Dixon. He said he didn't think anyone would survive however he helped pull a woman out of the car through the windshield and he received several minor cuts on his hands. The driver was said to have fled the crash. It is amazing and nice to see people help each other out when things like this happen whether it's a random person or someone with a little fame like Jamie Dixon. What are your reactions to Jamie Dixon's good Samaritan act?

Texas Roast
The Rangers have made it to their first World Series! This is an amazing feat and I am very happy for them. It is very nice to see the underdog win especially against the Yankees. The Rangers have been a force in all aspects of the game with Cliff Lee on the mound and Josh Hamilton at the plate. I will be a great World Series if they play the Giants in my opinion since they are underdogs as well and have a chance to beat the Phillies in game six. What are your thoughts on the Rangers and the Playoffs in general?

75K Hit
James Harrieson was fined 75K for his hits on the Browns this past Sunday. It is sad that just because of one week several dangerous hits occured on players that the NFL has finally put its foot down. To me this is garbage. These guys play this game and know the possible injuries that can occur all so they can make millions. The NFL rides on these aggressive hard hits thats why we all tune in on Sunday afternoon and evening. This is America's sport now and America has an infatuation with violence and thats something that football has, a violent contact fast paced system. How do you feel about the NFL now and the fines on the players involved in week 6?Thursday, October 14, 2010
Empty Pockets after Lockout?
The news on the potential NFL lockout next year are starting to come to a head and could be devastating. The NFL could lose 1 billion dollars after the March 3 collective bargaining agreement. This to me is not very shocking considering the NFL is the most popular sport in America however, it is a very large number indeed. Here is another scary number, 8 million. This is the amount that each team could lose for every canceled home game. These teams make revenue for their cities through various things such as restaurants, hotel accommodations and parking. Hopefully this will not happen, but what are some of your thoughts on the possible lockout?Tuesday, October 12, 2010
Big Shoes to Fill
The Braves recently lost their World Series dreams as well as their skipper. Bobby Cox who announced his retirement earlier this season after the Braves concluded their 2010 showing. Cox has been managing for 29 years and is most likely to be inducted into the hall. Apparently the next skipper is going to be Fredi Gonazalez former Marlins manager. Whoever it may be they will have a tough task at filling the shoes Cox left. Who do you think will manage the Braves next season and what do you think of Bobby Cox managerial career?

Baylor Haymaker
Baylor University indefinitely suspended their leading basketball scorer LaceDarius Dunn for aggravated assault. He surrendered to police after breaking his girlfriends jaw in an altercation. However the girls father said she didn't have a broken jaw at all and that someone was making something up. Hopefully in the upcoming days the police and the university will gather the facts and settle this. What do you think about this story and what are the possible dangers the basketball team could face this season?

PEDdling Situation
Recently strong safety Steven Gregory of the San Diego Chargers was suspended four games for performance enhancing drugs. This is a shame because this guy was having his best season in the NFL to date. Gregory said "I was completely shocked to find out about this positive test from May during the off-season. I have never knowingly used any form of performance enhancing substance, however as an athlete I know that I am responsible for everything that goes into my body." I feel sorry for him but the NFL has a strict policy just like MLB. It is still awful to see how our society is with PEDs and yes, it has toned down a little bit but it will always be a factor in sports no matter what. How do you guys feel about this story or PEDs in general?

Giant Weekend?
The San Francisco Giants are currently two games ahead of the San Diego Padres in the NL West. They recently swept the Arizona Diamonbacks in a slugfest of a series. This has been one of the most exciting division races this year and it all comes down to this week when the Giants host the Padres. The Giants only need one win against their rivals to clinch their first division and playoff birth since 2003. Will this happen Friday night October 1? I don't think so. It could come down to the last game of the series and with the Giants having timely pitching and hitting and players such as catcher Buster Posey and pitcher Matt Cain, it could a Giant weekend indeed.

Injury Prone?
Recently the NFL, players union and commissioner Roger Goodell met to discuss the issue of expanding the season to 18 games. Now I am not a fan of this because of the possible injuries these athletes can face. Football is a brutal sport no doubt and 16 games takes a toll on one's body. Just look at the injuries that are already occuring and we just finished week three. If they expand to 18 games then there is going to be more injuries that can affect a players season obviously but also the rest of his life after football i.e. concussions. Now football is what everyone looks forward to each week and most in my opinion like the fact that the season could possibly move to 18 games. However I think you have to look at what could happen to these athletes in the long run. Also, I think they should just stay traditional with 16 games, you dont see the MLB changing from 162 games to say 182. What are your thoughts on this issue?

Kolb Husked
Recently Andy Reid head coach of the Eagles announced that he has changed his mind and will be starting Mike Vick over Kevin Kolb. This seemed to be for only week three however Reid has said he did it because he wants Vick as the starter for the rest of the season. This is the right move in my opinion. If someone goes down with an injury, suspension or something else, and the next person to take over shows something special, i.e. Mike Vick in week 2, then he should continue to play or at least until there is a reason someone (Reid) shouldn't start him. It would be one thing if Vick had a poor outing but when someone with his caliber of skill and the damage he can do on the field, you have to stick with him. How do you feel about this situation with Vick as the starter the rest of the season?

A Little Introduction
My name is Matt McHenry and I am currently a sophmore Sport Management Major. My hometown is Latrobe PA, home of Steeler Training Camp and Arnold Palmer. I enjoy playing baseball, golf and basketball. Baseball is my favorite sport and in the summer I play in a wood bat league and help coach my old Legion team. My favorite team is the Boston Red Sox however my favorite player is Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees. I have had the pleasure of meeting him in person since his Uncle was one of my High School varsity baseball coaches. After graduation I plan on working in baseball either in Minor League or MLB. My dream is to work with the Red Sox as an equipment manager or facilities operations manager.
